Our Mission

Second Stride’s mission is to provide professional rehabilitation, retraining and placement of retired thoroughbred racehorses with qualified adopters.

We specialize in giving transitioning thoroughbreds the proper care and quality training they need to succeed in something new. 

Since our founding in 2005, we have placed over 1,700 retired thoroughbred racehorses and other thoroughbreds in need with qualified adopters around the country.

Second Stride is proud to have 2014 Kentucky Derby contender, General A Rod as our ambassador! He would love to welcome you to our Oldham County, Kentucky farm for a tour.

Straight To Glory
  • 3 year old thoroughbred gelding
  • Cotai Glory (GB) (Exceed And Excel (AUS)) out of La Cuvee (GB) by Mark Of Esteem(IRE)
  • Bred in IRE
  • 16 hands. He never raced and last worked on 7/31/24. He retired sound. He has a history of a left front low dorsal cortical stress fracture as a 2 year old. This is no longer an issue. He retired due to lack of speed. He is a bit footsore at this time and will need through Thanksgiving before riding.

    Glory is a very kind gelding that has settled in well to retirement. He is gentle when walking on a lead rope and stands well for grooming. He is respectful of his handlers and is a pleasant horse to be around.

    Glory should be suitable for any discipline.

Hogslayers R I P
  • 5 year old thoroughbred gelding
  • Union Rags (Dixie Union) out of Scatter Gun by Scat Daddy
  • Bred in KY
  • 16.2 hands. He last worked on 3/22/24 and retired sound. He does have a history of a torn ligament across the knee. He is currently sound on the leg. 

    Rip is a good looking and gorgeous boy with a lovely disposition. He seems kind and easy going and is enjoying settling into farm life. He has been respectful of his handlers and walks politely when out. He stays quiet in his stall and settles down quickly. He seems to enjoy interacting with his handlers and has a silly personality.  He was well behaved for grooming, and we haven’t noticed any vices.

    Rip is currently trotting soundly in the round pen. 

    Vet and ride eval pending.

Dynadrive
  • 7 year old thoroughbred gelding
  • Temple City (Dynaformer) out of Harbingerofthings by Rockport Harbor
  • Bred in KY
  • 16.2 hands. He last worked on 10/5/24 and was retired. He is a winner of over $600,000! He is a proven hard-working gelding who has been a winner in Gr 3 stakes races and placed in Gr 2. 

    Dynadrive is a gorgeous gelding that has settled in well to farm life. He has been respectful of his handlers and walks politely while being handled. He stands well for grooming and seems to enjoy interacting with people. We haven’t noticed any vices. Currently, he is on round pen turnout and doing well.

    He has a history of right front fetlock swelling and arthritis. The left front fetlock has a moderate bone injury in the medial condyle. 

    Vet and ride eval pending.
